Monoliths
The grain silos that dot our country and cities are fascinating. They are markers and give a sense of significance and industry and sit tall, prominent and proud on the landscape – like beacons.
These silos are often cylindrical and were made in different sizes and shapes - some with 2 cylinders, some 4, and others many more. The textured concrete of these silos often combines with corrugated iron to house critical components of the silo. The light falling on the curved walls is particularly beautiful at various times of the day creating everchanging shadows and highlights.
This body of work, Monoliths, taken over several years, highlights the beauty and strength of these impressive structures which were so important in times past for storing and transporting grain for various uses. Today, they are often unused and represent something else; how we move on, how we discard, that we forge other ways and that nothing can be taken for granted.
Monoliths is currently being exhibited as part of the 2025 Open Program at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
